Ans. Margie wrote, “Today Tommy found a real book !” with the date 17 May, 2157.

Ans. Margie’s school was next to her bedroom. She did not have any classmates.

II. Answer the following with reference to the story:

(i)They’ refer to boys and girls of very old school. यहाँ ‘उनके’ का मतलब बहुत पुराने स्कूल के लड़के व लड़कियाँ हैं।
(ii) Here, fregular’ means normal. यहाँ नियमित’ का मतलब साधारण है।
(iii) It is contrasted with a man. इसकी तुलना इन्सान से की जा रही है।
III. Answer the questions in a short paragraph (30 words):

(1) What kind of teachers did Margie and Tommy have ?
मार्गी और टॉमी के अध्यापक किस तरह के थे ?
Ans. Margie and Tommy had mechanical teachers. They used to learn and read everything through television screen, where they were given instructions on different subjects and they had to insert the homework in proper slot.
मार्गी और टॉमी के मशीनी अध्यापक थे। वे लोग टीवी स्क्रीन पर देखकर ही पढ़ते और सीखते थे, जहाँ पर उन्हें अलग अलग विषयों के बारे में हिदायतें दी जाती थीं और उन्हें अपना गृहकार्य सही खाने में डालना होता था।
(2) Why did Margie’s mother send for the County Inspector ?
मार्गी की माँ ने काउन्टी इंस्पेक्टर को क्यों बुलवाया ?
Ans. Margie’s mother sent for the County Inspector as Margie had been doing the Geography test very badly given by the mechanical teacher. Margie’s mother was very sad about it..
मार्गी की माँ ने काउंटी इंस्पेक्टर को इसलिए बुलवाया क्योंकि मार्गी अपने मशीनी अध्यापक द्वारा दिये गये भूगोल के टेस्ट बहुत खराब कर रही थी। इस बात से मार्गी की माँ बहुत दु:खी थी।
(3) What did he do ? (व्हॉट डिड ही डू?) उसने क्या किया ?
Ans. He smiled at Margie and gave her an apple. He took the teacher apart. After inspecting, he patted. Margie’s head and told her mother that it was not Margie’s fault. There was some problem in Geography sector. He was satisfied with Margie’s progress.
वह मार्गी को देखकर मुस्कराये और उसको एक सेब दिया। वह उसके अध्यापक को एक तरफ ले गये। निरीक्षण करने के बाद उन्होंने मार्गी का सिर थपथपाया और उसकी माँ से कहा कि मार्गी का कोई दोष नहीं है। भूगोल विभाग में कुछ गलती थी। वह मार्गी की प्रगति से संतुष्ट थे।
(4) Why was Margie doing badly in geography ? What did the County Inspector do to help her ?
मार्गी भूगोल में खराब क्यों कर रही थी ? काउन्टी इंस्पेक्टर ने उसकी क्या मदद की ?
Ans.. Margie was doing badly in Geography as on the screen, the geography sector was adjusted to a higher level by mistake.
The county inspector helped Margie by slowing down the sector of Geography upto her level.
मार्गी भूगोल का पाठ बहुत खराब कर रही थी क्योंकि टीवी स्क्रीन पर भूगोल का भाग उसकी उम्र के स्तर से ज्यादा का लग गया था।
काउन्टी इंस्पेक्टर ने भूगोल का पाठ धीमा करके उसके स्तर का करने में मार्गी की मदद की।
(5) What had once happened to Tommy’s teacher ?
टॉमी की टीचर के साथ एक बार क्या हुआ ?
Ans. Once, the County Inspector had taken Tommy’s teacher away for nearly a month as his mechanical teacher had blanked out history sector completely.
एक बार काउन्टी इंस्पेक्टर ने टॉमी के अध्यापक को एक महीने के लिए बाहर कर दिया था क्योंकि उसके मशीनी अध्यापक ने इतिहास को पूरी तरह से छोड़ रखा था।
(6) Did Margie have regular days and hours for school ? If so, why?
क्या मार्गी के स्कूल के नियमित दिन और घंटे होते थे ? अगर हाँ तो क्यों ?
Ans. Yes, Margie had regular days and hours for school.
The Television screen used to be on at the same time everyday except for Saturday and Sunday.
It is because children learn better if they learn at regular hours.
जी हाँ, मार्गी के स्कूल के नियमित दिन और घन्टे होते थे।
टीवी स्क्रीन नियमित रूप से हर रोज एक ही समय चालू हो जाता था या सिर्फ शनिवार और इतवार को छोड़कर।
ऐसा इसलिए क्योंकि अगर पढ़ाई के नियमित घंटे हों तो बच्चे ज्यादा अच्छी तरह समझ लेते हैं।
(7) How does Tommy describe the old kind of school?
टॉमी पुराने जमाने के स्कूल का कैसे वर्णन करता है ?
Ans. Tommy describes the old kind of school as a special building where all the children used to go together. They used to laugh, shout and learn the same thing together in school.
टॉमी पुराने जमाने के स्कूल के बारे में कहता है कि उस जमाने में स्कूल एक खास किस्म की इमारत होती थी जहाँ सब बच्चे एक साथ जाते थे। वे साथ में हँसते थे, शोर मचाते थे और एक सी चीजें साथ में स्कूल में सीखते थे।
(8) How does he describe the old kind of teachers?
वह पुराने जमाने के अध्यापकों का कैसे वर्णन करता है ?
Ans.Tommy describes the old kind of teachers in a funny way. He says, teachers were men who did not live in our houses. They used to go to special building to teach the same thing to all the children. He used to ask questions to them and gave them home work.
टॉमी पुराने जमाने के अध्यापकों के बारे में बड़ी अजीब तरह से वर्णन करता है। वह कहता है अध्यापक आदमी थे जो हमारे घरों में नहीं रहते थे। वे एक खास किस्म की इमारत में
एक सी चीज़ सारे बच्चों को पढ़ाने जाते थे। वह प्रश्न पूछा करते | थे और उन्हें गृहकार्य दिया करते थे।
IV. Answer each of these questions in two or three paragraphs (100-150 words):

(1) What are the main features of the mechanical teachers and the schoolroom that Margie and Tommy have in the story?
इस कहानी में मार्गी और टॉमी के मशीनी टीचर्स व उनके स्कूल की क्या विशेषताएँ बताई गई हैं ?
Ans. Mechanical Teachers : These are the special TV screens where all the sectors of different subjects are adjusted to a particular level of each child.
The mechanical teachers would be on at a particular time. It would start the lesson mechanically and give tests. Then it would ask the children to insert the previous days homework in the proper slot.
Schoolroom : Schoolrooms were the rooms next to the bedroom with the Mechanical teacher on and waiting for the child. It was always on at the same time daily except Saturday and Sunday
मशीनी अध्यापक – यह एक विशेष तरह के टीवी स्क्रीन होते हैं जहाँ हर विषय के सब पाठ हर बच्चे के हिसाब से सेट किये होते हैं।
दिन के एक निश्चित समय पर ये मशीनी अध्यापक चालू हो जाते हैं। ये एकदम मशीनी तौर पर पाठ शुरू करते हैं फिर टेस्ट देते हैं। फिर वो बच्चों से पिछले दिन का दिया हुआ गृहकार्य नियत स्लॉट में डालने के लिए कहते हैं।
स्कूलरूम – स्कूलरूम सोने के कमरे से लगा कमरा होता है। जहाँ नियमित समय पर मशीनी अध्यापक अर्थात् टीवी स्क्रीन चालू हो जाता है और बच्चे का इन्तजार करता है। यह रोज नियमित समय पर चालू होता है सिर्फ शनिवार और इतवार को छोड़कर।
(2) Why did Margie hate school ? Why did she think the old kind of school must have been fun ?
मार्गी को स्कूल से नफरत क्यों थी ? वह क्यों सोचती थी कि पुराने जमाने के स्कूल कितने मज़ेदार रहे होंगे ?
Ans.Margie always hated school but she started hating it more after one incident. The mechanical teacher had been giving her Geography test after test above her level and she had been doing very badly. She was even sent for the County Inspector. She wanted her teacher to go away altogether.
She thought the old kind of school must have been fun as all the children from neighbourhood would go to school together. They would laugh, play, shout and learn together in school and at the end of the day, all the children would go home. They would talk and help one another with the homework.
मार्गी को स्कूल से हमेशा से ही नफरत थी पर एक घटना के बाद उसकी नफरत और बढ़ गई। उसके मशीनी अध्यापक उसे ज्योग्राफी का टेस्ट उसके स्तर से ज्यादा का देते रहे और वो बुरे से बुरा करती रही। यहाँ तक कि उसे काउन्टी इंसपेक्टर के पास भी भेजा गया। वह हमेशा के लिए अपने अध्यापक को हटाना चाहती थी।
उसे हमेशा लगता था कि पुराने जमाने के स्कूल कितने मजेदार रहे होंगे जहाँ पड़ोस के सब बच्चे एक साथ जाते थे, वो सब एक साथ हंसते थे, खेलते थे, चिल्लाते थे और अपना पाठ साथ में याद करते थे और दिन खत्म होने पर सब बच्चे अपने-अपने घर वापस आ जाते। वे सब आपस में बात करते और गृह कार्य करने में एक-दूसरे की मदद करते।
(3) Do you agree with Margie that schools today are more fun than the school in the story ? Give reasons for your answer.
क्या आप मार्गी की बात से सहमत हैं कि आज के स्कूल ज्यादा अच्छे हैं बजाय उस स्कूल के जो कहानी में है ? अपने उत्तर का कारण बताइए।
Ans. Yes, I agree that schools today are more fun than the school in the story.
The school in the story has a TV screen as a teacher, next to the bedroom of the house. It gets on at a particular time everyday. It gives routine work, teach the lesson and gives homework. There is a dull atmosphere, child is all alone. There is no exchange of words. Nobody is there to interact..
Whereas in schools today, children come to school together. They learn, talk and play together. They have different periods of different subjects. Teachers also tell the stories to children. If child has any problem, he discusses with his teacher and friends. They learn to adjust with others. Children play many outdoor games in school and in happy mood they go back home.
हाँ, मैं मानता/मानती हूँ कि आजकल के स्कूल ज्यादा मजेदार हैं, बजाय उस स्कूल के जो कहानी में है। कहानी में जो स्कूल है उसमें टीवी स्क्रीन अध्यापक है जो कि सोने के कमरे के बगल में है। वह समय से एक निश्चित समय पर चालू हो जाता है। वह रोज का एकसा काम देता है, पाठ पढ़ाता है और गृह कार्य देता है। एकदम नीरस वातावरण रहता है। बच्चा एकदम अकेला पड़ जाता है। वहाँ कोई बात करने के लिए नहीं होता।
– जबकि आजकल के स्कूलों में सब बच्चे साथ में स्कूल जाते हैं। वो साथ में बातें करते हैं, सीखते हैं और खेलते हैं। उनकेअलग-अलग विषयों के अलग अलग घंटे होते हैं। अध्यापक भी बच्चों को कहानियाँ सुनाते हैं। अगर बच्चों को कुछ समस्या होती है तो वह अपने अध्यापक और दोस्तों से वार्तालाप कर लेते हैं। वे एक-दूसरे के साथ सामंजस्य बिठाना सीख जाते हैं। बच्चे स्कूल में काफी बाहर के खेल खेलते हैं और खुशी-खुशी अपने घर वापस आ जाते हैं।
